Modern Dance Classes for Serious Dancers

Modern Dance Classes at PSPA
-------------- For ages 8-17
Modern dance encourages creativity, expression, and exploration through movement. Students study concepts such as fall and recovery, space and time, opposition, sequence, unison, and movement dynamics while learning how to communicate emotion, storytelling, and artistic ideas through dance. Classes also focus on alignment, balance, flexibility, musicality, and core strength, helping dancers grow both technically and artistically.
Company Modern Classes
Placement required.
Modern dance at PSPA is offered exclusively as part of the Senior Company program, reflecting its role as an advanced, expressive discipline for committed dancers. Classes explore movement concepts including fall and release, space and time, unison, sequence, opposition, and dance energies — giving dancers the tools to articulate ideas and emotions through movement. Students develop alignment, core strength, and balance alongside flexibility and musicality. Modern is a core component of the Senior Company curriculum (offered alongside ballet, tap, and jazz), included at the bundled program rate, with additional styles available at reduced cost. Senior Company students perform in all four performances of the June show and have the opportunity to perform at community events throughout the year. Placement is required for all Modern classes.
