Fun Jazz Dance Classes & Technique

Jazz Classes at PSPA

 --------------  For ages 5 - 17

Jazz dance is energetic, expressive, and always evolving! Our Jazz classes focus on developing strength, flexibility, coordination, and performance quality through isolations, movement patterns, rhythmic exercises, jumps, leaps, turns, and stylized choreography. Dancers are encouraged to develop their own personality and artistry while learning age-appropriate jazz technique and progressions. Jazz classes typically begin during a child’s third year of dance training.

Class Highlights

Pembroke School of Performing Arts jazz dance classes include isolations, movement patterns, and rhythmic coordination to develop strength, flexibility, and jazz technique in a musical and artistic expression.

Combination Jazz Classes

Jazz is introduced as part of our multi-style combination program for dancers ages 7–12 with three or more years of experience. Studied alongside ballet and tap, jazz in the combination curriculum focuses on proper technique and terminology in a positive, age-appropriate setting. Classes run 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes per week depending on age, with technique through the winter and choreography in the spring leading to the June performance. Dancers typically perform a minimum of three dances in the show.

Company Jazz Classes

Company jazz at PSPA is a dynamic, progression-focused class spanning Junior and Senior Company levels. The curriculum covers isolations, movement patterns, and rhythmic coordination to develop strength, flexibility, and jazz technique within musical and artistic expression. Progressions are tailored to each dancer's age and skill level, ensuring continuous growth. Company jazz is included in the Jr and Sr Company bundled programs at a reduced rate, and students perform in all four performances of our June show as well as community events throughout the year. Placement is required; please speak with our staff before enrolling.
