Job Skills I Learned in Dance Class

Are your most valued employees dancers? Here’s why they should be. Dance class offers an opportunity to gather, to come together, feel a sense of community and perfect those dance/life skills. What skills are those exactly? Well to name a few; goal setting, grace and poise, courage, ability to read body language, taking and applying criticism, creative problem solving and the all-important ability to work with others.

PSPA alumni Leslie says “People in my office really struggle with presentations and my boss always comments on how she never worries when I’m presenting because she knows I’ll always be confident and rehearsed.” In business, a responsive workforce is a huge plus with clientele. If you’ve ever experienced that challenging situation, vendor or perhaps your system and processes has failed.. another PSPA Alumni Tara reflects on her work experience stating, “Thinking on your feet is almost an ‘Improv’ if you will. All learned in dance class.”

Again the creative nature of dance teaches individuals to project grace and poise all the while the mind is actively evaluating creative options for positive outcomes. Dancers understand working towards long term goals. They understand constructive criticism and how to apply corrections making them worthy of your investment. Knowing how to read the clientele’s body language provides insight to improved sales. Their poise and confidence can deliver a positive image for the presentation or business in general.

Want to be known as that individual who brings added value to the workforce, start with your dance class and build those transferable skills. Want an employee with added value, look to partner with a dancer.
