Why participate in Summer Dance?

Traditionally, many families view summer as a break. While downtime is important, hanging out with friends has value, and summer can be long for an active child. So why not enroll them in something they love?

Dance helps children socialize.  A Summer Dance Program provides students and parents a short term commitment to try a new studio or dance style.  Summer Dance Class and Dance Camps are usually small in size, providing a positive and fun environment for the shy or new dance student to get comfortable and build friendships. Smaller Summer Dance Classes can provide dance families with a unique opportunity to get to know the staff and studio. New students can use a studio’s Open Viewing Policy to watch ongoing classes to gain valuable information about the staff and your child’s ability to participate.

Summer Dance Class provides the beginner dancer an opportunity to gain important basic skills while participating in small fun Themed Dance Camps and Technique Classes. Both the Intermediate and Advanced dancer can gain additional technical skills or focus on the areas that they find challenging by participating in Workshops such as Turns and Leaps, Flexibility and Stretch and many others. Dancers can attend Intensives or Master Classes focusing on new dance styles or focusing on a style that they feel passionate about.

Summer Dance helps students to continue to work on or maintain valuable learning life and technical skills such as the ability to focus, to be disciplined, maintain a healthy lifestyle, to develop self-confidence, to build skills for self-expression and make important friendships. Think about it, even our schools recommend reading lists and math skills over the summer to maintain skills acquired during the school year. They know that the student who takes the summer off may be at a disadvantage when classes resume.

Summer Dance experiences come in many shapes and sizes. Fun and exciting Dance Camps and Workshops, challenging Technique Classes and Intensives all provide the opportunity to build additional skills, allow your dancer to step out of their box and try a new style or work with a new teacher or studio, as well as building friendships with those who also share their passion for dance.

Down time is great, investing in your dancer and their passion… exhilarating!
